Barcelo Tenerife (formerly Sandos San Blas)

Barcelo Tenerife stands right on the seafront at San Blas, in Golf del Sur, on Avenida de Grenamora. It has seven outdoor pools, one for children and one heated all year, and an artificial lake where guests can paddle a kayak. Golfers have Amarilla Golf and Golf del Sur close by, and Los Abrigos beach is a short walk away. Families get a children's pool and a playground, while the wellness centre is for guests over 16. It used to be Sandos San Blas, so you may still see the old name on a booking. Golf bags ride in the back of the minibus, from €50 for your whole group.

Bahia Principe Explore Fantasia (formerly Bahia Principe Fantasia Tenerife)

Bahia Principe Explore Fantasia is the family resort with the castle, on Avenida Galvan Bello in Golf del Sur. Until recently it was called Bahia Principe Fantasia Tenerife. The resort tells the story of Papimber, with a castle at its centre, a copy of the Canary dragon tree and seven pools. There are shows with its characters for the children, and some suites open straight onto a swim-up pool. Child seats and a pushchair are on request, so the whole family and the cases travel together in one minibus from Tenerife South.

Palia Don Pedro

Palia Don Pedro is a three-star complex on Calle Hercules in Costa del Silencio, just outside Las Galletas. Guests stay in studios or in one- and two-bedroom apartments, set in tropical gardens with an outdoor pool. It runs on an all-inclusive basis, and the fishing harbour of Las Galletas is about a kilometre away. From Tenerife South it is at our lowest fixed price: from €50 for your whole group.

About Golf del Sur & El Medano

Golf del Sur

Golf del Sur grew up around its course on the south coast of San Miguel de Abona. The 18 holes have been played since 1987, with the Atlantic in view from almost every one. Amarilla Golf lies next door, by the sea. Between the fairways and the shore sit apartment complexes, villas and large resort hotels.

El Medano

El Medano is a small town on the coast of Granadilla, close to the airport. Its beach runs for 750 metres of fine grey sand under Montana Roja, a red volcanic cone, and flies the Blue Flag. The wind blows here on about 300 days a year. The far end belongs to windsurfers and kitesurfers, while the end by the town is calmer for families. Tenerife South Airport to El Medano is at our lowest fixed price.

Las Galletas and Costa del Silencio

To the west, in Arona, Las Galletas is still a fishing village. It has a beach of black sand and pebbles, the Marina del Sur and a promenade of fish restaurants. Costa del Silencio sits right beside it, with its own seafront walk and a natural sea pool by the Ten-Bel complex. A transfer from Tenerife South Airport to Costa del Silencio, or on to Las Galletas, costs the same as to Golf del Sur.

    The bus from Tenerife South Airport to Golf del Sur is a local line that winds through the resort, and it does not run often. For El Medano you usually change buses in San Isidro. A taxi from the rank is quick on a short run like this, but a family with golf bags or a group may need two.
